Language Offerings
The four campuses of the Consortium offer instruction in a wide selection of South Asian languages, in regular and tele-video formats, including Bengali, Hindi, Persian, Sanskrit, Tamil, and Urdu. If you are thinking of learning a South Asian language, this article contains a vaulable introduction.

Hindi-Urdu
Hindi-Urdu is offered with regular instruction by faculty at NCSU, Duke, and UNC-CH, and by televideo instruction at NCCU.

Sanskrit
Sanskrit will be offered in Fall, 2009 at North Carolina State University. Contact Dr. Pankaj Jain, NCSU Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, pjain5@unity.ncsu.edu for information. Fast Track to Urdu
In Fall, 2009 at North Carolina State University a new one- or two-credit course will be offered for students who have acquired the basic grammatical structure of Hindi, to allow them to make a rapid transition to Urdu script. The course will focus on Urdu script, vocabulary, and cultural differences, with simple prose and poetry readings. Other South Asian Languages
Classes in four less-commonly-taught South Asian languages are offered across our three Triangle consortium campuses, Duke University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University.
Even more South Asian languages, such as Assamese, Dari, Gujarati, Kannada, Panjabi, Malayalam, Marathi, Pashtu, Tamil, Telugu, etc., can be studied through the Language Independent Study Program.Inter-institutional Registration

number of South Asian languages are taught at NCSU and all students at
UNC, Duke, or NCSU who want to take one of these languages may do so
through inter-institutional registration. These students may elect to
travel to NCSU but if there is enough enrollment we will try to provide
video-conferencing to your campus. Here is how to register:
